Open vs Closed Rhinoplasty
What's the difference?
Open Rhinoplasty
An open, structural rhinoplasty involves making a small incision at the base of the nose between the nostrils, allowing the surgeon full visibility and access to the internal structures. This approach is ideal for complex reshaping, tip refinement, or major structural changes that require precise cartilage grafting. It’s often the preferred method for revision surgeries or when patients have thick skin or asymmetries that need detailed correction. Dr. Hussain uses open rhinoplasty when precision and visibility are crucial to achieving a patient’s aesthetic or functional goals. He prioritizes transparency in the consultation, ensuring patients understand the benefits of this approach for their specific needs.
Closed Rhinoplasty
A closed rhinoplasty is performed using internal incisions made within the nostrils, which means there is no visible scarring after surgery and typically a faster recovery period. This technique is best suited for patients needing dorsal hump reduction, minor tip refinement, or correction of the nasal bridge without extensive structural changes. While it offers limited visibility compared to the open approach, it can be highly effective for achieving natural-looking results in straightforward cases. Dr. Hussain recommends closed rhinoplasty when subtle improvements are desired without the need for grafting. During the consultation, he carefully evaluates each nose to determine the best technique for the patient’s goals.

Dr. Hussain took care of an aesthetic concern of my nose that has bothered me for several years. He was patient and explained complex medical concepts in easy to understand terms. The scar was imperceptible within 2 weeks without anyone knowing what I had done. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for exceptional facial aesthetics delivered with compassion

Am I a Good Candidate?
If you have concerns about the shape or function of your nose, or are unhappy with a previous nose surgery, rhinoplasty may be right for you. Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty are non-smokers, physically healthy, and have realistic expectations.
Rhinoplasty at Cassileth Plastic Surgery involves the careful study and calculated alteration of a patient's unique features, adjusting the interplay between various angles—nasofrontal, nasolabial, and nasofacial—so that the nose is in proportion and symmetrically aligned with the rest of the face.
